Educational institutions must reopen in a phased manner- IAE

Indian Association of Epidemiologists and IPHA said in a statement that the government must direct its efforts on preventing deaths rather than on containing the infections. They mentioned that there is no advantage of creating containment zones in areas with a substantial spread. Several epidemiologists said that asymptomatic people could receive treatment in their homes through phones and follow-ups of pulse oximeter readings, depending on the severity of COVID-19. However, isolation and containment are crucial in areas where the spread is moderate. Further, they noted the social stigma and fear due to stamping and barricading of houses with COVID positive people. They advised the government to follow a pragmatic approach towards normalcy. Further, educational institutions must open in a graded manner as lockdown has outlived its utility in the country.

In all, India has reported the most new COVID-19 cases in any country and experts predict that September will be a challenging month.
