Coronavirus Cases in India Surpass 5 Million Mark

The coronavirus cases in India have surpassed 5 million mark, making it the second country after the US to register more than 5 million cases.  Patients continue to pour in hospitals as the pandemic rages in the country.

India has registered 52,12,686 cases so far, out of which 10,17,717 are active. While its death toll stands at 84404, and around 41,09,828 cases have recovered . India is the second-worst affected country while the USA remains the worst affected country with more than 6.59 million cases. Also, Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 24619 new cases and 31351 fatalities. The cases in Delhi rose to 234701 with 4432 cases and 38 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases and recovered cases in the national capital are 31721 and 198103. The country has recorded more than one million cases in the last 11 days, the highest in the world.

A paper Ramit Debnath and Ronita Bardhan signified the importance of PM Modi’s directions of following strict lockdown, encouraging the mask use and social distancing norms, and teaching Yoga in routine. The scientific journal PLOS One, the paper studied the effects of changes induced by the government in various sectors. The changes included converting old trains into isolation wards, rapid production of PPE and masks in MSMEs, and online education. It took the majority of data from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in the form of policies, program initiatives, and achievements released by the government.

The PM announced a lockdown across the nation on March 25 which continued till May 31.

In all, the virus has globally affected around 29.6 million cases, and more than 9 lakh individuals have lost their lives.
