News on US-Iran war tensions led to prices of basmati rice decreasing by almost 200 rupees per quintal in a single day. Ever since killing of Iran’s General Qassem Soleimani leading to escalations between USA and Iran, rice exporters are deeply concerned about exporting rice to Iran. Currently, payments worth an estimated 900 crores of basmati rice exporters is stuck in Iran. The credit exposure to Iran had reached 1300 crores couple of months back. Rice industry set for another nerve-rendering season this year.
Non-basmati prices remain stable as last update. However, prices likely to increase in the coming days as INR weakened against USD on Friday.
