New harvest of 1509 basmati paddy is here and major arrival of the crop in mandi’s in north India will begin in a week’s time. Correction in basmati rice prices has already started. Prices of most basmati varieties fell by 2-5% on average. Non-basmati rice prices are stable and increasing by marginal percentage. Flood reports and uneven rainfall across the Country will have a major impact on prices and harvest of non-basmati rice. In particular, Gobindo Bhog variety has seen a major increase in prices jumping from INR 58 a kg to INR 69 in a matter of months.
