Such start-ups are working towards enhancing value-added dairy offerings like cheese, butter, ghee to increase the income of farmers in India.

Stellapps, based in Bengaluru deploys technology of IoT to achieve efficiency in procurement and storage of milk. It analyses the assimilated data on the cloud platform and then provides actionable intelligence to all stakeholders through mobile devices. Ranjith Mukundan, co-founder and CEO of, Stellapps states that their service will be of much use in the post-covid economy. They witnessed a 46% spike month-on-month in its order value during the COVID-19 lockdown as the number of farmers trading rose from 1.98 million to 2.3 million.

Similarly, Country Delight is delivering milk at customers’ doorstep directly from farmers. It also uses data analytics and other technology to provide quality milk to the customer while saving farmers’ costs by eliminating wastage. Co-founder Chakradhar Gade says that their integrated cold chain helps to keep products including milk, curd, and cheese fresh. Besides, their team ensures that there is no impurity by maintaining strict quality standards.

Grocery Delivery Platforms Providing Opportunities to Milk Sellers

Several grocery delivery apps have a significant share in the milk business. BB Daily and Supr Daily offer dairy products on a subscription model. Also, Jio Mart’s business plan is in the initial stages as it is testing its services in a few locations. Another such company is Milkbasket, offering 9,000 products across fruits and vegetables, dairy, bakery, and other FMCG products across Gurugram, Noida, Dwarka, Ghaziabad, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Experts say that dairy farming has become highly competitive. Besides, owing to the perishability of the product, one needs to master the domain to earn profits.

In all, technology for improving the dairy sector will prove a boon in a country where it largely remains unorganized.
