Punjab Reports 56 Coronavirus Cases

Total of 56 new Coronavirus cases reported in Punjab today. Total Coronavirus cases in the state surge to 2719. Further, active cases as on date stand at 497. Today Punjab recorded 39 recoveries and two deaths.

Past week, Punjab reported an infection growth rate of 2% everyday.

COVID-19 District Wise Report

Amritsar District remains the worst affected as it crosses 500 Coronavirus cases today. The COVID-19 tally is now at 502, of which 21 reported today. Jalandhar and Ludhiana Districts follow closely with 311 and 266 cases respectively with 4 and 15 cases reported today. Currently, 91 of every million Punjab citizen tests positive for coronavirus. Also, Barnala is the least affected district with 27 confirmed cases.

Punjab Coronavirus Death Rate and Cured Cases

Mortality rate stands at 2.02% against the national average of 2.79%. Punjab has one of the highest Coronavirus recovery rate in India with a recovery rate of 79.7%. So far, a total of 2167 patients have been cured. Also, the state reports the death toll at 55.

Punjab Striving to Increase Testing Capacity

Punjab government has decided to involve rural and Ayush medical officers to aid in COVID-19 testing. Subsequently, the health workers will be responsible for collecting swabs. Addressing that, the reason for not attaining maximum testing capacity was lack of human resource, the said decision is in place. In this regard, a three-day training of RMO and AMO aiming to train in the collection and packaging of the sample is on course.

Not Using Masks a Serious Problem in Punjab

Officers issued over 4600 challans as people failed to wear masks in the state. Furthermore, 160 people were spitting while 24 failed to follow social distancing guidelines. Following this, CM highlights that such audacious behavior is punishable.
