Ujjwala Scheme 2.0- PM Modi to Launch the Scheme Today

PM Modi is all set to launch the Ujjwala Scheme 2.0 today nationwide via video conference. The said event will be launched by disbursing LPG cylinders to its beneficiaries. Further, the launch is at Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh.

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana- PMUY

The first phase of PMUY was launched in 2016. The primary aim of the said scheme was to make available Liquefied petroleum gas to the women in need. Accordingly, it aimed to provide LPG cylinders to over five crore women that are below the poverty line. Next, during the second phase, the scheme included seven more categories of women (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, and more backward classes). Consequently, in 2018 the PMUY scheme’s target rose to eight crores.

Ujjwala 2.0

As of now, over 8 crore Indians have benefitted from the PMUY scheme. This year, PM Modi through the scheme aims to include 1 crore new beneficiaries to the scheme. The said beneficiaries will be provided LPY cylinders this financial year. In addition to that, the recipients will get a free refill and a stove. In support of this, Finance Minister has added the extension in the current year’s annual budget.

PMUY enrollment can be made either offline or online by filling and submitting the application form. The application form is available on the official website.

Eligibility Criteria

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana came into existence intending to aid the people in need. Thus, the scheme is eligible for citizens that satisfy the criteria’s below.

  1. Only women are eligible to apply
  2. The Women must be above 18 Years
  3. BPL (Below Poverty Line)
  4. BPL and Ration card is mandatory
  5. No LPG connection in the household of the applicant.
    In all, the PMUY scheme aims to provide a sustainable source for cooking. Further, this reduces the burden of several women that are struggling. Furthermore, PM Modi encourages women by saying that they can contribute to other fields of life if this burden is reduced.
