BV Krishna Rao, president of Rice Exporters Association, said that Indian rice had seen a demand increase despite a 3-5% jump in price due to rupee depreciation. He added that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/rice-export-from-india-increases-by-more-than-50\/\">rice exports<\/a> rose by 35% in the first four months of FY21 as compared to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/indias-exports-decline-by-10-20-as-trade-deficit-stands-at-usd-4-83-billion\/\">exports<\/a> in the same period last year. Indian non-basmati variety is available at\u00a0$400 per tonne while the price for Thailand and Vietnam rice ranges between $490 to $500 per tonne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Rice-bags-loading-at-port-1024x705-1.jpg\" alt=\"High Demand for Indian Non-basmati Rice Exports Due to Price Rise in Vietnam and Thailand\" class=\"wp-image-1357\" width=\"515\" height=\"354\"\/><figcaption> High Demand for Indian Non-basmati Rice Exports Due to Price Rise in Vietnam and Thailand <br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">COVID Uncertainty Results in Rice Price in Vietnam<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The increasing cases of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.india.gov.in\/spotlight\/collaborating-overcome-covid-19\"> COVID<\/a> and uncertainty over the pandemic have encouraged hoarding in Vietnam, which led to price rise. Also, the increase in purchases by local traders at the end of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/drought-in-morocco-leads-to-low-harvest-of-wheat\/\">harvest<\/a> season has contributed to the increased price. Experts say the costs will remain high at least until the arrival of new harvest in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The majority of the world\u2019s rice demand is met by Pakistan, Myanmar, India, Thailand, and Vietnam. India supplies its rice to almost 170 countries in the world and accounts for 11 million tonnes out of 40-45 million tonnes of rice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/india-posts-trade-surplus-as-imports-plunged-owing-to-coronavirus\/\">traded<\/a> globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-basmati Exports to Touch FY18 Export Levels<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>September and October will witness a surge in demand for non-basmati rice from India. Exporters expect the exports to touch FY18 levels of 8.64 million tonnes. The quantity came down to 5.04 million tonnes in FY20 as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/farmers-reeling-from-crop-losses-due-to-floods-across-india\/\">farmers<\/a> lacked interest in exporting because of high MSP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shortage of Containers<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The exporters are facing a shortage of export containers. Rao said that the supply of containers has slowed down on Kakinada (the biggest non-basmati port ) after a decrease in imports from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grainmart.in\/news\/chinas-economy-set-to-overtake-usa-in-4-years\/\">China<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all, the demand for non-basmati rice has increased.
